In the year 2090, in another parallel universe. A galaxy called Diaphanous with multiple planets is made of precious materials that are reflective, translucent, and shiny. Many neighboring planets have countless suns, and the sky is apparent to see shimmering lights. Many of these natural resources are used for civilization to advance. Some say that new elements in the periodic table have increased in their galaxy.
Although society has become prosperous from the resources, life expectancy has decreased in their galaxy. For life to revert, these crystals are sold off in the interdimensional galaxies around the universe. Two colleagues who believed to find a profit of making these crystalized material into just a useful resource for a living figure that if they combined both their talent of experimenting and artistic skills, they would profit.
Zeyn was born on the forestland jungle planet with toxic chemical lakes from the radiations of the suns’ and stars pollutants that fell from the gravitational imbalance. A scientist was researching chemical solutions to save the habitants. Yunmi was born above the sky of Zeyn planets who have advanced technologies and have artistic lifestyles. One day, she redeems herself from being a broke artist. She always wondered what is beneath a massive land wasted planet. And if there is a precious material for her to make a profit from.
Five years later, before their fall collection, their garments’ invention is found out to be not just a reflective material. Still, it restricts them from being exposed to hazardous chemicals, and with the city Yunmi was born in, they became trendy as many people became more expressive from the choice of clothing style they wore.
As the fabric is very intangible, it could manipulate how people used them. The material’s benefits were superficial that many of the clothing had evolved to have their fiber mixed with other fibers. From an almost Destruction of planets, the beginning of another fashionista lifestyle era hopes to collect materialized resources benefiting from universal trading, saving the planet’s survival, and uplifting the potential risk on
What was the inspiration for your collection?
Diaphanous Galaxies is inspired by Japanese fashion called cute lolita and the goth Lolita seen in Akihabara streetwear. Furthermore, it is combined with the fascination I have with astronomy. I love learning about this universe we live in and the many planets that shine. Shiny things are lovely; therefore, I wanted to incorporate translucent fabric due to the effect of it radiating from the sun.
Besides my deep love for galaxies and Japanese fashion, I wanted to make it unique that it truly is me by putting a pineapple symbol into my design. The pineapple signifies the pineapple fiber that is created in the Philippines used in our Philippines cultural clothing.
The Pineapple lines symbolize the nets of the shirt and stockings. Diaphanous Galaxies are made to set in the future that an alien civilization uses to wear translucent fabrics as their wardrobe.
What made you want to be a fashion designer?
Becoming a fashion designer was something I wanted to do when I got into cosplaying back in 2014 when I was a sophomore in high school. Even before that, I wanted to be a fashion designer because of anime inspiration designs. Therefore, I studied arts and Japanese in high school because I wanted to move to Japan to become a designer, an English teacher, or an art major.
What is the inspiration behind your color palette?
The inspiration of the color palette is from seeing the purple and pink gradient fade. It sparked the idea that I wanted an ombre fade as it’s becoming a popular theme for hair and many products. The colors also focus on seeing many galaxies’ silhouettes are made of multiple colors, which is taken from the purple, pink, aqua, blue, and brown from the pineapple fiber color.
What sparked me to continue this path was the endless night of sewing costumes. I just fell in love with the progress that drawing could turn into a reality.
