Evelin Arias Tinoco

Senior Collection

What was the inspiration for your collection?

This year, we created 2 separate collections. The inspiration for collection #1 was my Mexican and Guatemalan background and Disney.

The inspiration for collection #2 was the show Avatar: The Last Airbender, specifically, the Sun Warriors, and by the fashion of ancient Mesoamerica and modern Southeast Asia.

What made you want to be a fashion designer?

My need for creative expression, natural curiosity, and the need for change all made me want to be a fashion designer. I have always been fascinated with fashion ever since I was a little girl, and I wanted to know more about what it takes to create such beautiful clothing.

I am also a very creative person and fashion allows me to express myself through a different medium of art. Finally, I want to make a change and show more representation and diversity to make the fashion industry more inclusive.

What is the inspiration behind your color palette?

Because there are 2 separate collections, there are 2 separate color palettes. The color palette for collection #1 is inspired by both the Mexican and Guatemalan flags.

The color palette for collection #2 is inspired by the original color palette of the Sun Warriors as well as the color scheme of the Fire Nation, both of which came from the show, Avatar: The Last Airbender.
